Cisse: 'Fans were reason I joined Newcastle'

Newcastle United's new signing Papiss Cisse has revealed that the Toon Army were one of the main reasons behind him joining the club.

The striker joined in January for £9m from German club Freiburg and scored a stunning winner on his debut in the game against Aston Villa.

The Senegal international has taken the popular number nine shirt at St. James' Park and was briefed by his teammate Demba Ba about the passion of the fans at Newcastle.

"They live and breathe football here and I wanted to go to a club like that," said Cisse.

"I want to thrive here. This is a football city with great support for the club. It makes me very happy to know they are like that. This is my sort of club.

"It is important for me to have that relationship, which is one of the reasons I liked the idea of joining Newcastle."

Cisse is expected to start in the game against Tottenham tomorrow evening.
