Vurnon Anita excited by Siem de Jong arrival at Newcastle United

Newcastle United midfielder Vurnon Anita has claimed that new signing Siem de Jong can be a "great player" for the club.

The 25-year-old recently joined the Magpies from Ajax in a deal worth around £6m.

Having already impressed for Newcastle during pre-season, Anita believes that his fellow Dutchman will adapt quickly to life in the Premier League.

"Siem can be a great player in the Premier League. I was excited when I heard Newcastle had signed him because I have known him since I was little," he told The Sun.

"We played for six years together at Ajax and are good friends, so it was very nice for me that he has come."

Newcastle begin their Premier League campaign at home to champions Manchester City on August 17.
