San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 New England Revolution

San Jose Earthquakes began the new MLS season with a 1-0 win over New England Revolution, thanks to a excellent defensive display.

The only goal of the game came after 15 minutes when Shea Salinas's perfectly-weighted through ball was collected by Chris Wondolowski, who finished with a low strike from the edge of the area.

Injury-hit Earthquakes were forced to reshuffle their back-four ahead of the game, as the previously untested partnership of Victor Bernardez and Justin Morrow began the game in the centre of defence.

The pair were fantastic and, as a result of their commanding display, Benny Feilhaber's long-range effort straight at Kelyn Rowe was the only occasion the goalkeeper had to make a save.
