Charlie Davies: 'MLS playoff win is unimaginable'

Charlie Davies says that New England Revolution's 4-3 aggregate MLS playoff win over the New York Red Bulls is the culmination of five years of "grinding it out".

New England Revolution striker Charlie Davies has said that it is "unimaginable" that his side have reached the MLS Cup Final after a 4-3 aggregate win over the New York Red Bulls.

Davies netted both goals in a 2-2 second-leg draw in the Eastern Conference final at the Gillette Stadium.

The 28-year-old has said that the win is the product of five years of hard graft after suffering severe injuries in a car crash in 2009.

"For me, personally, it's unimaginable really," Davies told mlssoccer.com.

"These five years, really just grinding it out, things would go against me and there's a lot of tears and pain.

"Through it all I just continued to fight and stay with it and things have turned out for the best."

Davies has netted 17 goals in 22 appearances for the Revolution this season.
