Evian TG grab crucial win over Metz to give themselves a lifeline

A second-half finish from Gilles Sunu helps to give visiting Evian TG a slender 2-1 win over Metz in Ligue 1.

Gilles Sunu's second-half finish earned Evian TG a vital 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Metz in Ligue 1 this evening.

The game's first real chance did not arrive until just short of the half-hour mark when Evian's Adrien Thomasson drove his long-range shot inches wide of Johann Carrasso's post.

The skipper produced a blunder when he was next called upon, however, fumbling the ball into his own net to give Evian a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Metz looked a little lacklustre going forward, but that all changed on the stroke of half time when Ferjani Sassi found Bouna Sarr, who tucked into the bottom corner with his right foot to bring the scores level.

Mathieu Duhamel should have put Evian back in front after the interval, but instead he somehow saw his shot saved by Carrasso at point-blank range.

With both sides perhaps a little wasteful in the second half, Metz passed up a good chance to go in front as Romain Metanire headed straight at Benjamin Leroy in the centre of the Evian goal.

Evian finally took a chance to go ahead and it proved to be the match-winning goal as Sunu finished confidently having been picked out by the enterprising Thomasson.
