Marseille 1-0 Evian Thonon Gaillard

Morgan Amalfitano's goal in the first half against Evian ensures that Marseille maintain their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season.

Marseille maintained their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season with a 1-0 home win against Evian Thonon Gaillard on Sunday.

The visitors were the first to make an attempt on the L'OM goal in the ninth minute, as Olivier Sorlin took a shot from 35 yards but in vain.

Marseille were not too slow thereafter to begin to assert themselves on the match, with Morgan Amalfitano's header from a Benoit Cheyrou cross going wide in the 19th minute.

Mathieu Valbuena tried a shot in the 28th minute but it was saved by Evian goalkeeper Stephan Andersen.

The French giants eventually broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Amalfitano headed home Valbuena's delivery from close range.

Amalfitano could have doubled Marseille's advantage three minutes later had his header from the centre of the Evian box not gone wide.

Elie Baup's side continued to dominate proceedings in the second half, with Andre-Pierre Gignac heading just wide in the 50th minute.

The visitors created chances of their own, as Mohammed Rabiu forced Steve Mandanda into making a save in the 66th minute, but they failed to conjure up anything productive.

The win means that Marseille have won all six of their league games so far this season and are at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
