Didier Deschamps has said that his players let Lyon off the hook after throwing away a two-goal lead in Sunday's Ligue 1 clash.
Victory at the Stade Velodrome would have seen Marseille leapfrog Lyon and Lille and move into third place.
Goals from Benoit Cheyrou and Brandao put the home side ahead before Bafetimbi Gomis and a Souleymane Diawara own-goal restored parity.
Speaking after the game, Deschamps said: "I'm both disappointed and not.
"Yes, because we were fortunate enough to be two goals up after playing an excellent opening 35 minutes. No, because after that we took our foot off the gas and conceded an avoidable goal before turning the ball into our own net.
"We let Lyon back into the match and they had more chances than we did. We didn't have the juice left at the end to turn the match in our favour."
The result means Les Phoceens remain fifth in the table, 11 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
