Barcelona boss Xavi refuses to entertain suggestions that his club are looking to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

Barcelona boss Xavi refused to entertain suggestions that his club are keen to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer this summer.

Rudiger's contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of June, and the Germany international is widely expected to leave the Blues in search of pastures new.

Manchester United, Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain continue to be linked with the defender, while a recent report claimed that his agent had met with Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany and deputy Jordi Cruyff last week.

Xavi said that the club are "working for next season", but the Catalan outfit's head coach is not currently prepared to discuss possible arrivals, with the team preparing for Sunday's La Liga clash against Sevilla.

"I'm not going to talk about signings, we have a lot at stake. It is true that Mateu, Jordi and the board are working for next season, but our [job] is to go for second place tomorrow," Xavi told reporters.

Rudiger, 29, is currently unable to sign a new deal with Chelsea due to the sanctions placed on owner Roman Abramovich, but Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is still "confident" of keeping the German.
