Man United transfer news: Ruben Amorim delivers verdict as Red Devils target a new striker and goalkeeper

"We'll see" - Amorim addresses Man United's transfer plans amid Sesko battle

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim said that the Red Devils "are always looking to improve the team" when asked whether he was hopeful of a striker and goalkeeper arrival before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 20-time English champions have boosted their attack with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford respectively during the current market.

Meanwhile, a deal for teenager Diego Leon has also been completed, and the 18-year-old has made a huge impression with his pre-season performances.

Man United remain active in the market, with a new striker wanted due to the team's issues in the final third during the 2024-25 campaign; Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig is their leading target, but the Slovenia international is currently the subject of a substantial offer from Newcastle United.

The Red Devils are also said to be keen to bring in a new goalkeeper due to Andre Onana's struggles, while Altay Bayindir is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Amorim: 'Man United are always looking to improve the team'

"To hope is a strong word. We are always looking to improve the team. And we have some characteristics that we would like to have. But again, it depends on the market. It depends on the sales. We'll see," the Manchester Evening News quotes Amorim as saying when asked about the arrival of a striker and a goalkeeper.

"But I'm really happy. And I think even when you talk about Andre, you can see the goalkeepers. Even Tom (Heaton) is leaner, he's a different goalkeeper. Altay (Bayindir) did really well and Onana is going to be better like the other guys that are getting better this year."

Bayindir and Heaton have featured during pre-season, with Onana on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem, although the Cameroonian is expected to return for the friendly with Fiorentina next weekend.

Onana has largely struggled during his two seasons in Manchester, and the likes of Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma are currently being linked with moves to Old Trafford.

When are Man United next in action?

Man United will round off their pre-season tour of the United States with a clash against Everton on Sunday.

The Red Devils have been in impressive form in the Premier League Summer Series, beating West Ham United 2-1 in their tournament opener before recording a 4-1 success over Bournemouth last time out.

Man United therefore only need a point from their last game against Everton to finish at the top of the Premier League Summer Series table, although their superior goal difference means that they are incredibly likely to finish at the summit even if they were to lose to David Moyes' side.

The club's final friendly of the summer is against Serie A outfit Fiorentina on August 9, before welcoming Arsenal to Old Trafford in the Premier League on August 17.
