Reading want Welbeck on loan

Danny Welbeck is reportedly wanted by Premier League strugglers Reading on loan until the end of the season.

The Royals have sounded out Manchester United about the possibility of borrowing Welbeck and after a positive response are confident of landing the England striker, according to The Sun.

Welbeck has struggled to start matches at Old Trafford in recent months, with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez providing formidable competition for places.

The 21-year-old has scored just once for United so far this season, a strike in the Premier League against Stoke City.

Reading boss Brian McDermott has been active in the early part of the transfer window, signing Daniel Carrico and Hope Akpan in the past 10 days.
