Jose Mourinho: 'I expect Matteo Darmian to stay at Manchester United'

Manager Jose Mourinho says that he expects defender Matteo Darmian to remain at Old Trafford for at least the first half of the season.

Manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that Matteo Darmian will no longer be able to secure a move away from Old Trafford.

Darmian was only used as a bit-part player during the most recent campaign, and the Italy international has been frequently linked with a return to Serie A.

However, Mourinho has said that Darmian is now likely to remain in the North-West, and feels that the 28-year-old can have no complaints having failed to find a new club.

At a press conference, the Portuguese told reporters: "I don't think he will go, and he cannot have any bad feeling towards us because we opened the door for him in case his desire was to go but it looks like it's not going to end in a transfer and for me is good news that Matteo is staying.

"He's always an option for us, a reliable player, we know that his performance level is that one, we know he always does a job for the team, right back, left back, starting player on the bench, he always does it. He's loved in the group by his human nature, too."

Darmian has made a total of 86 appearances for United since joining the club from Torino in 2015.
