Mason Greenwood could continue his football career in China if he leaves Manchester United, according to a report.

Mason Greenwood could reportedly continue his football career in China if he leaves Manchester United.

The 20-time English champions are currently considering their next steps regarding the forward's future, as he has had all criminal charges against him dropped.

Last January, the 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood has been suspended by the Red Devils since the allegations were made, and he was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for November.

However, Greater Manchester Police revealed in a statement on Thursday that all charges against the Englishman had been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesperson for the CPS said: "We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.

"We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met."

Man United then released a statement on Thursday revealing that they will "conduct its own process" before deciding on their next move regarding the forward.

"Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped," read the statement from the club.

"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."

According to The Sun, should Greenwood leave Man United, the attacker could continue his career in China.

The report claims that the forward believed he was not supported by the Red Devils when the allegations were first made, and he had vowed to never play for the club again at the time.

"At the time he was adamant he didn't want to put on the red shirt again. He felt like the club didn't stand by him," the newspaper quotes a source as saying.

"He said he would be happy to go and play in China as long as that meant he was getting paid well and was playing. His view may have softened over the last few months, but he was not happy at all."

There is no timeframe on a decision from Man United, with the club expected to take their time.

Greenwood has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, with his last appearance coming against West Ham United in January 2022.
