Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo denies reports that the club are close to signing PSG striker Edinson Cavani, who has also been linked with Man Utd and Chelsea.

Manchester United and Chelsea have seemingly been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Edinson Cavani after Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo denied reports that his side are on the verge of signing the Paris Saint-Germain striker.

Recent reports claimed that Cavani had agreed personal terms with Atletico after turning down offers from both United and Chelsea, with some suggestions that he was set for a medical in the Spanish capital.

However, Cerezo has now poured cold water on speculation that a deal is imminent, claiming that there is "nothing" to the rumours linking La Rojiblancos with the 32-year-old.

"There is absolutely nothing with the player," Cerezo told Onda Cero.

"We need to score goals and we have great goalscorer, but what we are missing now is a bit of luck and we are not taking our chances. Transfers are always complicated but at the moment there is nothing."

Cavani is PSG's leading goalscorer of all time but has less than six months remaining on his contract and has made only four Ligue 1 starts this season.
