Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen to land two big-money signings before the end of the month.
United are said to be on the verge of securing a deal for Swansea City attacker Daniel James, who is expected to be just one of a number of new players to arrive at Old Trafford in this summer's transfer window.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils are planning to make two big-money signings before the start of pre-season, with a new defender high on the club's wishlist.
Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has been continually linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last few weeks, although it is thought that the centre-back has rejected an offer from the Red Devils.
An £84m bid for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly is said to be on the table, however, while Solskjaer's side have also been strongly linked with moves for Paris Saint-Germain's Thomas Meunier and Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes.
United, who finished sixth in the Premier League table last term, are due to start their pre-season against Perth Glory on July 13.
