Man United transfer news: Red Devils agree '£70m' Carlos Baleba transfer with medical date revealed

Man United agree '£70m' Baleba transfer with medical date revealed

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion over the transfer of Carlos Baleba.

The Red Devils have already signed two midfielders this summer, recruiting Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.

But with Bruno Fernandes best used as a number 10 and Manuel Ugarte out with a long-term injury, Man United have continued to scout the market to add another midfielder to Michael Carrick's squad before the transfer deadline.

In recent days, it emerged that Man United had made progress in negotiations with Brighton to sign long-term target Baleba.

Man United on brink of £70m Baleba transfer

The Red Devils seem to view the defensive midfielder as a strong candidate to replace Casemiro, who left the club at the end of last season.

According to BBC Sport, the Red Devils have now agreed a £70m deal with the Seagulls for the Cameroon international.

The agreement will see Man United pay an initial £65m transfer fee, plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Brighton will retain a sell-on clause for a player who has made 112 competitive appearances during his three-year stay on the south coast.

Man United set Baleba medical date

As per Sky Sports News, Baleba is set to undergo a medical on Saturday before he signs a five-year contract.

The midfielder is currently recovering from an ankle injury he sustained in Brighton's pre-season training camp in Austria, although it is not expected to impact the proposed transfer.

However, the issue will likely delay Baleba's potential debut, as he will have to build up his fitness once he recovers from injury.

Once Baleba's move is confirmed, Man United will surely put their focus on signing a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw.

They have already made contact with Alejandro Balde's agent after identifying the Barcelona defender as a potential target.
