Manchester City reportedly have concerns over whether the signing of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice would prove to be detrimental.

Manchester City are reportedly leaning against making an approach for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

Despite the indifferent performances of the Hammers this season, Rice has remained as the club's standout player, strengthening the feeling that he will soon leave the London Stadium.

Last week, manager David Moyes acknowledged that it will become increasingly difficult to retain the services of the England international in the long term.

With West Ham possessing a 12-month option, Rice is effectively tied to the East Londoners until 2025, and the best time to maximise the money generated from a sale is this summer.

If reports are to be believed, West Ham have little intention of considering any offers that fall short of £100m, a stance that will rule out some of his admirers.

As it stands, Arsenal are regarded as the clear favourites for the 24-year-old, and the Gunners could have the funds required due to a return to the Champions League and being able to sell a number of squad players.

However, faced with the possibility of Ilkay Gundogan leaving on a free transfer, Manchester City remain active in the race for Rice as they contemplate potential alternatives.

According to the Daily Mail, though, City are not convinced that Rice would be the right fit.

Manager Pep Guardiola allegedly has concerns that Rice would not be able to form an effective partnership with Rodri, possibly having a detrimental influence due to his style of play.

Rodri can count 42 starts in the Premier League and Champions League this campaign and is regarded as an integral part of the starting lineup when available.

Although there are certain fixtures which may call for each of Rodri and Rice, it is hinted that Rodri would get priority when only one defensive-minded midfielder or deep-lying playmaker is required.

The report adds that Arsenal are also yet to be convinced that they should spend in the region of £100m on Rice, even if the funds are available to do so.

Manchester United are regarded as another possible destination, particularly if they are able to secure a return to the Champions League for 2023-24.
