Leipzig: 'Liverpool have not made contact over Werner'

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has insisted that neither Liverpool nor Bayern Munich have contacted the German club to discuss a potential deal for Timo Werner.

The Germany international has been in excellent form at club level during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 27 times and providing 12 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool are thought to be in a strong position to land the 24-year-old this summer, but Mintzlaff has revealed that the Merseyside outfit are yet to make official contact.

"Neither Jurgen Klopp nor [Bayern chairman] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge contacted me," Mintzlaff told General-Anzeiger.

"We are happy that we were able to extend the contract with him until 2023. He played a really strong first half of the season. We also believe that we are still a very good stage for Timo Werner on which to develop as a Germany international."

Chelsea, Inter Milan and Manchester United have also been linked with the centre-forward, who has struck 88 goals in 150 appearances for his current side in all competitions.
