Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly welcomes transfer talk

Kalidou Koulibaly welcomes transfer talk

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed that he is "pleased" to be attracting interest as Manchester United reportedly line up a summer move for the Senegal international.

Koulibaly is widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in world football and has previously been the subject of a £95m bid from United, according to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

United are believed to be desperate to sign the centre-back at the end of the season, and the 27-year-old has welcomed the speculation surrounding his future.

"My future? I don't know if I'm one of the strongest defenders. I always try to give my best," Koulibaly told Rai Sport. "Since I'm here, I always try to grow with Napoli. I have a lot of motivation to go on and I want to keep doing this.

"I am pleased that many teams follow me, but I want to demonstrate on the field that I am at the level of the greatest and I want to show it in the future."

Koulibaly, who could cost in excess of £100m, has made 194 appearances for Napoli in all competitions since moving to the Italian side from Genk in 2014.

United's need for a new central defender was once again highlighted in their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in last week's Champions League last-16 first leg.
