Getafe boss Jose Bordalas is unsure whether Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood will return to the Spanish club next season.

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has admitted that he is unsure whether Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood will remain with the Spanish club next season.

Greenwood was charged in January 2022 with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour.

After the charges were dropped in February 2023, Man United launched their own internal investigation to determine Greenwood's Old Trafford future.

The club were believed to be open to bringing Greenwood back into the first-team setup before they made a U-turn following the public backlash.

Man United stopped short of terminating Greenwood's deal, as they opted to send him to Getafe on a season-long loan deal.

Greenwood has gone on to establish himself as a key player in the Getafe side, starting 22 of his 25 La Liga appearances.

The attacker has netted six goals and five assists, including his most recent strike in a 3-3 draw with Las Palmas earlier this month.

Although Greenwood's loan deal runs until the end of the season, Getafe are keen to bring him back to the club for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, Bordalas has conceded that he is unsure whether the Manchester United winger will return to Getafe for next season.

"We don't know", Bordalas told reporters. "In the end, his club has to decide their intentions with the player. Then we will also know the boy's intentions for his future. But I can't tell you. We are happy with his behaviour and his performances."

What are the alternative options for Greenwood?

As it stands, Greenwood will return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, where a decision will be made on his future.

New Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has left the door open to a possible return, while there are a number of clubs showing an interest in the 22-year-old.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus have emerged as potential destinations, although the former are reluctant to meet Man United's £49.8m asking price.

The Red Devils want to secure a permanent departure rather than a loan if they decide to part ways with Greenwood in the summer.
