PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo reportedly performs a U-turn on his proposed move to Leeds United and is no longer keen on a switch to Elland Road.

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo has reportedly performed a U-turn on his proposed move to Leeds United and has told the club that he is no longer interested in joining them.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, with Manchester United, Leeds, Southampton and Everton among the clubs thought to have made enquiries about the forward during the summer window.

Reports emerged last week that Leeds had won the race for the 23-year-old's signature and had agreed terms to bring him to Elland Road in January.

However, The Athletic reports that Gakpo has now had a change of heart and is no longer keen on the switch, having learned of interest from other clubs.

The Dutch international is understood to be hopeful that a successful World Cup campaign will increase the interest in him further and lead to a bigger transfer during the January window.

PSV are thought to want a minimum of £30m for the Netherlands international, although that figure could increase if Gakpo continues his fine recent form through to the World Cup in Qatar.

The forward has directly contributed to 23 goals in just 16 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring 13 of his own and creating a further 10 for his teammates.

Only Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland can match that figure in world football from the 2022-23 campaign, making Gakpo one of the hottest properties ahead of the January window.

Gakpo also scored 21 goals and registered 15 assists in all competitions last season, form which saw him get onto the radar of a number of clubs.

The report claims that his U-turn on the Leeds deal could be good news for Man United, who were known to be weighing up a move for him during the summer before eventually signing Antony.

Gakpo confirmed that he expected to join the Red Devils up until the final week of the window, but eventually decided against the move due to not wanting to switch clubs before the World Cup.
