Louis van Gaal job 'safe for another year at Manchester United'

A report claims that Louis van Gaal will see out the remainder of his three-year deal at Manchester United, even if the club misses out on a top-four place.

Louis van Gaal's job at Manchester United is safe until at least the end of next season, according to a report.

The Dutchman's future has remained unclear for large parts of this inconsistent campaign, as the Red Devils face the prospect of missing out on a top-four finish.

Despite the possible financial blow of failing to reach the Champions League, The Mirror claims that Van Gaal's staff are convinced he will see out the remainder of his current deal, which has a little over a year left to run.

It is claimed that plans are already underway with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over potential summer signings, seeing the 64-year-old through to the end of the three-year deal signed in 2014.

Jose Mourinho is widely considered to be the frontrunner to replace Van Gaal should he be axed, but the Portuguese is now said to be resigned to missing out on the illustrious job.
