Dwight Yorke: 'Marcus Rashford is like Andy Cole'

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke draws comparisons between Marcus Rashford and club legend Andy Cole.

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has compared Marcus Rashford to his old teammate Andy Cole.

Yorke and Cole formed a deadly partnership at Old Trafford, with the latter scoring 93 goals in 195 appearances during his six-year spell with the Red Devils.

Rashford has established himself as a regular member of both the United and England squads since bursting onto the scene in February, and Yorke believes that the 18-year-old would have also been a productive strike partner for him.

"Cole and Rashford are very similar. They like to run in on goal. Cole never liked to get involved in link-up play – although he was very good at it – and like all the world's best strikers he liked to get in on goal. Rashford also has that knack," Yorke told 888sport.

"That allows Wayne Rooney – or myself – to get midfielders running backwards and pick a pass through. It's always good to have that combination with one going long and the other short.

"Then you're confusing defenders. Me and Rashford would have scored some goals and caused some problems, believe me. The combination would have been good enough."

Rashford has scored 12 goals in 26 appearances for United overall, including three in five league outings this term.
