New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly demanded that the pitches at the club's training base be ripped up prior to his arrival.
The current head coach of the Dutch national side, who was appointed on a three-year contract last month, will take charge of the Red Devils following the conclusion of the World Cup.
It was expected that the majority of his work would be done in the transfer market this summer, but he has also insisted that the current turf at Carrington should be replaced, according to The Sun.
The report added that the 62-year-old has instructed the club to install the Desso Grass-Master system, which is already in use at Old Trafford and several other Premier League grounds.
The high-tech surface uses ordinary turf, which is then reinforced by artificial fibres to ensure that it lasts longer.
It is also believed that Van Gaal has informed the club that he would like floodlights installed at the training centre to enable him to hold late afternoon sessions throughout the winter months.
