Liverpool's Martin Skrtel has no guilt over 'stamp' on David de Gea

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel says that he feels no guilt for allegedly stamping on Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, which resulted in a three-match ban.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has admitted that he feels no remorse about allegedly stamping on Manchester United defender David de Gea.

The 30-year-old was hit with a three-match ban by the Football Association after his foot landed on De Gea's ankle during last weekend's 2-1 defeat to United at Anfield.

Liverpool attempted to contest the charge, but it was upheld by the English governing body, and despite being punished, Skrtel has insisted that the challenge on his opponent was unintentional.

On Skrtel's official website, the defender wrote: "It feels strange because we appealed against those charges and still I was hit by a three-match ban.

"I didn't want to stamp on him. It was an accident and I didn't do it on purpose. I don't feel guilty. It was a long ball and he went towards me and I wanted to jump over him. Simple as that."

Skrtel will miss Premier League games against Arsenal and Newcastle United, as well as an FA Cup quarter-final replay against Blackburn Rovers.

Captain Steven Gerrard will also be absent from those games as he was handed a straight red card for stamping on Ander Herrera, just 38 seconds after coming on as a substitute in the game.
