Paul Scholes bemoans number of injuries during Manchester United's season

Paul Scholes believes that injuries to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie have halted Manchester United's season.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that the club's injury list this season has contributed to their lowly position in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils, who have dropped 18 points at Old Trafford so far this season, currently sit seventh in David Moyes's first campaign since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Along the way, United have suffered injuries to strikers Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, which Scholes believes has proved detrimental to his former club.

"I don't think the manager can legislate for the amount of injuries he has had to deal with," Scholes told the club's official website. "We've missed Rooney and Van Persie for big chunks of the season - they are two of the best centre-forwards in the world and any team would miss them.

"It's been a crazy season for injuries. Hopefully we'll get a bit of luck with injuries and I'm sure if we get all our players fit we'll get moving up the league."

United will travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal this evening.
