Sir Alex Ferguson confirms that Wayne Rooney will be out for two to three weeks after suffering a knee ligament injury in training.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be out for a least a fortnight with a knee injury.

Rooney missed this afternoon's dramatic 4-3 win against Newcastle United with the ligament injury, suffered on Friday in training.

United were also without Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young for the Magpies match, with Ferguson declaring that his side are short in attack.

He told BBC Sport: "Rooney has done a ligament at the back of his knee and he will be out for two or three weeks.

"We are running out of ammunition."

United started with Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez against Newcastle, with the latter scoring a last-gasp winner.
