Juan Mata sends early congratulations to Chelsea for winning Premier League

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata prematurely congratulates Chelsea on winning the Premier League.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has congratulated his former club Chelsea for winning the Premier League, despite the Blues not having wrapped up the title just yet.

Jose Mourinho's side have a 10-point lead at the top of the standings, and if they win their next two away games against Arsenal and Leicester City, they will be crowned champions.

Following United's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Mata decided to send his congratulations to his former club.

"To them and also to the players, I thank them for such affection and I congratulate them for the title they are about to win, because it's almost done," Mata wrote in his weekly blog.

"It was nice to meet them and chat with them after the game, and also the club's staff, doctors and physios, and feel their respect and friendship. Thanks to all and congratulations."

Mata moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea last year.
