Manchester United release a statement condemning the minority of fans who sang Hillsborough-related chants during their win over Wigan this afternoon.

Manchester United have condemned chants sung by a minority of fans alluding to the Hillsborough disaster.

The shocking truth regarding Hillsborough was released earlier this week, prompting United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to call for an end to vile chants sung by fans of both United and Liverpool.

Some fans ignored the request in the early stages of United's 4-0 win over Wigan this afternoon, however, and were heard chanting "It's never your fault, it's never your fault, always the victims, it's never your fault".

Following the match, the club released a statement on the matter, which read: "The club deplore it. The manager has made the club's position very clear on this matter.

"It is now up to the fans to respect that."

Liverpool and Manchester United will face each other next weekend in the Reds' first home game since the truth surrounding Hillsborough was revealed.
