Denis Irwin: 'Manchester United will improve next season'

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin believes that supporters will have to wait until next season before the side reach their full potential under Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin believes that supporters will have to wait until next season before the side reach their full potential under Louis van Gaal.

United are currently fourth in the Premier League and have been hit by a number of injuries throughout the campaign to the likes of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo.

"Other than David de Gea, hardly any of our players have gone through the season without being sidelined at some point," Irwin told United's website.

"We need a run of games where we don't pick up any injuries and until the manager gets that stability, I don't think we can expect to see the very best of United this season."

Van Gaal's side travel to Cambridge United in the FA Cup on Friday.
