Jose Fonte: 'Players should be proud of win over Manchester United'

Southampton skipper Jose Fonte tells his players to be proud of their victory over Man United after the club ended a winless run at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Southampton captain Jose Fonte has told his players to be proud of their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

The travelling Saints ended United's unbeaten run to record their first league win at Old Trafford in 27 years thanks to Dusan Tadic's second-half finish and some standout defensive organisation.

"It's not every day you get a win at Old Trafford against a great team so for us it's a pleasure and something we should be proud of," Fonte told Sky Sports after the game.

"There's a long way to go but it's another three points. We got a lot of confidence from this game.

"It was a game that we defended really well, and they only had shots from outside the box if I'm not wrong. It was a fantastic game this afternoon."

The victory has moved Ronald Koeman's men into third spot in the Premier League table.
