A report claims that Luis Campos, who has worked closely with Jose Mourinho in the past, is a strong contender to become Manchester United's new director of football.

Manchester United reportedly intend to keep manager Jose Mourinho happy by appointing longstanding friend Luis Campos as the club's director of football.

A number of names have been tipped to take on the newly-created role, including the likes of Monchi, Fabio Paratici and former player Edwin van der Sar.

According to The Mirror, however, Campos is now the favourite to be appointed after indicating that he wants to leave his near-identical role with Ligue 1 side Lille.

Campos, also touted as a contender to become Chelsea's new technical director, worked alongside Mourinho as Real Madrid's tactical and talent scout and they have remained close ever since.

The 53-year-old has also previously been employed by Monaco in a backroom position, helping to bring in the likes of Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez, Bernardo Silva, Djibril Sidibe, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
