Tuesday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: Douglas Costa, Diogo Jota, Alex Telles

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Tuesday, September 22.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Manchester United eye possible reinforcements.

The Red Devils brought in Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo in the final days of the winter window but are still expected to be active in the summer as they aim to restore their former glories.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Tuesday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

Wolverhampton Wanderers to beat Manchester United to Douglas Costa?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly identified Juventus winger Douglas Costa as a potential replacement for Diogo Jota.

Jota joined Liverpool last week in a deal which could rise to £45m, leaving Wolves looking to bring in cover ahead of next month's transfer deadline.

Italian outlet Calciomercato claims that Costa is one of the targets to have been earmarked by Wolves, with Juve keen to offload the winger due to his recent injury record.

The 30-year-old has two years remaining on his contract at the Allianz Stadium but could still cost Nuno Espirito Santo's side in excess of £32m.

Manchester United have also reportedly looked at Costa as a possible alternative to Jadon Sancho, but the Borussia Dortmund man remains their top target for the ongoing window.

Wolves are now thought to be leading the race for the Brazilian's signature, and any deal could come close to their club-record transfer fee, which they broke to sign Fabio Silva for £35m earlier this summer.

Manchester United 'step up transfer plans after Crystal Palace defeat'

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up plans to strengthen their backline following Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils have been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far, bringing in just midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a deal rising to £39m.

However, the Manchester Evening News suggests that United now accept the need for some extra defenders is more pressing ahead of the October 5 deadline.

United, who conceded three goals in their opening Premier League game for the first time since 1995, are in the market for a left-back and a centre-back to partner Harry Maguire.

Porto's Alex Telles is rumoured to be high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wishlist, although reports that an agreement is already in place are wide of the mark.

Vitaliy Mykolenko of Dynamo Kiev is said to be another option to provide competition for Luke Shaw, who had a disappointing game against Palace.
