Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag receives a mixed reception from the Old Trafford crowd during his speech on Wednesday.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag received a mixed reception from the Old Trafford crowd during his speech following Wednesday's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

The Red Devils recorded a 3-2 win over the Magpies in their final home match of what has been a largely difficult and testing 2023-24 campaign.

Ten Hag's future remains the subject of much speculation, with the Dutchman's chances of keeping his job beyond the end of the season allegedly being rated at 50-50.

The Dutchman addressed the Man United fans shortly after the full-time whistle on Wednesday, with the manager and his players then undergoing a lap of honour.

Ten Hag received some boos in the early stages of his speech, although the negative reaction was eventually drowned out by cheers from the home supporters.

"On behalf of the players, the staff and myself, I'd like to thank you all for the brilliant support during the season," the manager said in his speech.

"As you know, it wasn't an easy season, but one thing remained constant, and that was the backing of you for the team. But this season is not over yet. First at Brighton, we go for three points again, and then we go to Wembley.

"I promise you that those players will give everything. Everything to end it good, to win the cup and bring it to Old Trafford.

"And we are sure that you will be there, supporting us. Thank you for being the best supporters in the world. Thank you!"

Ten Hag set to receive much-needed injury boost for FA Cup final

Injuries have harmed Man United throughout the season, with Ten Hag saying on a number of occasions that the team's fitness issues have played a large role in their issues this term.

However, Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford all made their injury returns against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Willy Kambwala is also back to fitness, while Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount could all be available for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.

Anthony Martial is now seemingly available for selection, but it seems unlikely that he will play for the club again, with the Frenchman's contract due to expire at the end of June.

One player who will definitely not return this season is Tyrell Malacia, with the Netherlands international instead battling to make himself available for the start of the 2024-25 campaign after undergoing two knee operations.
