Scott McTominay: Manchester United put in "real shift"

Midfielder Scott McTominay says that Manchester United put in "a real shift" during their goalless draw with Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has admitted that he is keen to repay the faith shown in him by manager Jose Mourinho.

On Wednesday night, McTominay was given a role in the starting lineup as United recorded a goalless draw in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Sevilla, and the young Englishman was praised by Mourinho after the game.

However, McTominay has said that it was a team effort in Spain, claiming that he and his teammates had put in "a real shift" to go into the reverse fixture on level terms.

The 21-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "Obviously it's so important for me to repay the manager whenever he puts trust in me in these games, and I thought the whole team tonight put in a real shift for the manager and I think going back to Old Trafford we're in a good position.

"I wouldn't say the best position because we didn't win, but we're in a good position because we can go back and fight for every ball and hopefully we can progress to the quarter-finals.

"It's all to play for. At 0-0, anything can happen. We're confident against any team we play. Hopefully we go back to Old Trafford and we can go through there."

McTominay has made a total of eight starts and six substitute appearances in all competitions this season.
