Report: Aleksandar Kolarov earns new Manchester City deal

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola outlines his desire to hand a contract extension to Serbian defender Aleksandar Kolarov.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly keen to offer a contract extension to defender Aleksandar Kolarov following the club's 100% start to the new season.

The 30-year-old, who moved to the Etihad six years ago, is part of a side that have conceded just five times in their opening six games and sit top of the standings on 18 points.

Speaking after the side's 3-1 victory at Swansea City on Saturday, Guardiola said that he plans to begin negotiations with the Serbian international in the coming weeks.

"We're in September so we have time," he told The Mirror. "What I want is that Kola is happy here. Of course we are going to be interested to speak to him. But what I want now is that he is happy and everyday he feels comfortable playing.

"He's a guy who has helped us a lot from the beginning. That is the most important thing.

"We have time to speak, but ultimately, the players decide. If he wants to stay, he's going to stay. If he wants to leave because he wants a change, he's going to change. The people who want to stay, it's perfect. The people who want to leave, for example Samir Nasri, OK go. I like to work with the people who like to be here together with each other to try to win the games and make our people happy."

Kolarov has made 142 appearances to date in a City shirt, contributing 10 goals in the process.
