Former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis reveals that he turned down a move to Premier League champions Manchester City this year.

Filipe Luis could have signed for Premier League champions Manchester City before sealing a move to Brazilian club Flamengo this summer.

The 34-year-old has revealed that he had an offer on the table from City between January and March, but the move didn't work out.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the former Atletico Madrid full-back explained just how many offers he received as he neared the end of his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"There was a call from Juninho Pernambucano to go to Lyon, but I said I could only give an answer after the Copa America and they ended up signing someone else.

"There was Turkey, China, a number of countries that called, but none of them felt right in my heart at the time."

Filipe Luis will always be remembered in Madrid for being part of the Atleti side that defied the odds to win the La Liga title in 2014.

The Brazilian international also had a year-long stay at Chelsea, in which he featured 26 times, winning the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho in 2015.
