Late Yaya Toure penalty gives Manchester City win over Norwich City

Late Toure penalty gives Man City win

A Nicolas Otamendi header and a late Yaya Toure penalty have given Manchester City a 2-1 win over Norwich City this afternoon.

The hosts dominated the game's early chances, as Kelechi Iheanacho benefited from a defensive mix-up to force a save from Norwich keeper John Ruddy, before Wilfried Bony spurned two opportunities to find the opener.

Norwich almost found a goal against the run of play, as Matt Jarvis forced an acrobatic save from Joe Hart from the edge of the penalty area, before Vincent Kompany headed narrowly wide from an Aleksandar Kolarov corner at the other end of the pitch.

After the break the visitors took control of posession, but Man City looked dangerous on the break as Kevin De Bruyne blazed an effort over the bar from a tight angle, before Toure missed the target with an effort from distance.

Bony had a good opportunity to give the Citizens the lead on the hour mark, as the Ivorian was unmarked at a De Bruyne corner, but the former Swansea City man headed wide.

The hosts took the lead on 67 minutes, as summer signing Otamendi rose highest to meet a De Bruyne corner with a thumping header past Ruddy.

Man City almost doubled their lead moments later, as Bacary Sagna found Bony with a cross, before the striker saw his header deflected behind for a corner.

Norwich found an equaliser on 83 minutes, as Citizens keeper Hart dropped the ball from a Jonny Howson cross, before Cameron Jerome applied the finish.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 88 minutes as Norwich captain Russel Martin handled the ball on his own goalline. Man City were awarded a penalty, which Toure converted to restore his side's lead.

The hosts could have added a third goal before the final whistle as Robbie Brady brought down Raheem Sterling in the penalty area. Kolarov took the spot kick, but his effort missed the target.
