Toure named African Player of the Year

Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has been named as the 2011 African Player of the Year.

The 28-year-old beat Mali's Seydou Keita and Ghana's Andre Ayew to the award at a ceremony in Accra on Thursday.

Toure joined the Premier League leaders from Barcelona in July 2010 for around £24m.

He helped the Blues win their first trophy in 35 years with last season's FA Cup triumph against Stoke City.
