John Stones: 'Pep Guardiola is best manager in world'

New Manchester City defender John Stones says that he will be playing under "the best manager in the world" at the Etihad Stadium.

New Manchester City defender John Stones has said that he will be playing under "the best manager in the world" at the Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old completed a £47.5m move from Everton earlier today, becoming the most expensive British defender in football history.

Stones becomes City's eighth signing of Pep Guardiola's first transfer window, and the centre-back is sure that it is the right move for him.

"I just rang my mum and all of family and said, 'I can't believe that I'm here, playing for such a big club, the best manager in the world'. It just all seems so surreal. It will take me a few weeks to settle in and get my head around everything, but I'm super excited," Stones told City TV.

"I always know there's a lot of improvement for my game personally. I think it's 110% the right decision to play under him. I'm so thankful I've got this opportunity to come here, train with the best and improve day in, day out. He's a winner and that's what's going to rub off on everyone."

Stones could make his competitive debut for City at home to Sunderland in their opening match of the new Premier League season on Saturday.
