Vincent Kompany: 'Manchester City are not a big club'

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany says that the Sky Blues cannot be considered a "big club" without a Champions League title under their belt.

Vincent Kompany has claimed that Manchester City cannot call themselves a "big club" until they win the Champions League.

The Citizens have scooped every domestic title on offer at least once since 2011 - including two Premier League crowns - but they have struggled for success in Europe.

City, who have never progressed past the last 16, were eliminated from the continent's elite competition by Barcelona in the previous two years, and Kompany says that European glory is essential in order for recognition.

"It is the last thing that we have to achieve in order to prove we have become a big club," the Belgian, who joined the Sky Blues in 2008, is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

Beating Sevilla in Spain on Tuesday would see Manuel Pellegrini's men move into the second round for the third successive season.
