Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Oxford United

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their EFL Cup quarter-final at League One Oxford United on Wednesday.

Manchester City will continue their quest for a third successive EFL Cup trophy and fifth in seven years when they take on League One Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night.

The holders and reigning English champions swept Arsenal aside at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and will be expecting an even more straightforward evening against an Oxford side without a goal in their last three games.

The hosts have already upset the odds on a number of occasions in this season's competition, though, and they will be dreaming of their biggest giant-killing yet when City come to town.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 1 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Leroy Sane is still on the long road to recovery after sustaining knee ligament damage in the Community Shield against Liverpool in August. The winger will be back before the end of the season but remains over a month away from a return.

Aymeric Laporte

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 1 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Another long-term absentee, Aymeric Laporte is also targeting a February return having been sidelined since the end of August with a serious knee injury.

Sergio Aguero

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: December 18 (vs. Oxford)

Pep Guardiola has refused to put an exact timeframe on Sergio Aguero's recovery from a thigh problem, but it is highly unlikely that he will be risked in this match. The weekend's game with Leicester City is a possible target, although a return after Christmas seems more likely.

David Silva

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: December 18 (vs. Oxford)

David Silva has missed the last two games after suffering a knock to his leg, but he is expected to be available for the visit to Oxford.

John Stones

John Stones has also missed the last two games, and his injury is more serious than Silva's with Guardiola confirming that the centre-back will miss "a few weeks".
