Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Porto

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Porto.

Manchester City will kick off their 2020-21 Champions League campaign with a home game against Portuguese giants Porto on Wednesday night.

The Citizens will enter the match off the back of a much-needed 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday and will be determined to start their European season with a positive result.

City were surprisingly dumped out of last season's competition by Lyon, having suffered a 3-1 defeat to the French side in the second leg of their quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Porto, who drew 2-2 with Sporting Lisbon in their last league match on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus has missed City's last five matches in all competitions with a muscular problem, and the Brazil international is set to be on the sidelines for "some months", with Guardiola issuing an update on the attacker's injury situation in the aftermath of the win over Arsenal.

Aymeric Laporte

City are expected to be without the services of key central defender Aymeric Laporte, who missed out against Arsenal, until at least the end of the month with a muscular problem.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is yet to turn out for City this season, is currently on the sidelines with a muscular problem. The left-back did not link up with Ukraine on international duty, but he is in the latter stages of his recovery and could be available to face West Ham in the Premier League on October 24.

Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Guardiola revealed after Saturday's win over Arsenal that left-back Benjamin Mendy would be out for the next "three or four weeks" with a muscular issue, meaning that he might not return until after the November international break against Tottenham Hotspur.

Kevin De Bruyne

Possible return date: Unknown

Kevin De Bruyne will again be absent for City with the thigh issue that he picked up while representing Belgium against England in the UEFA Nations League. The attacker missed out against Arsenal and will not be available here, although the injury is not expected to rule him out of many more games.
