Half-Time Report: Bayern Munich double turns game around

Bayern Munich strike twice late in the first half to lead Manchester City 2-1 at the break of the Champions League tie.

Two goals in the final five minutes of the first half have seen Bayern Munich come from a goal down to lead Manchester City 2-1 in their Champions League Group E game.

In the ninth minute, Arjen Robben's mazy run across the edge of the box ended with a scooped pass towards goal which found Sebastian Rode, who was only denied by a good Joe Hart save.

Franck Ribery then saw his goalbound shot bravely blocked by a combination of City defenders, but just seconds later the game swung in the favour of the home side.

Sergio Aguero collected Frank Lampard's through-ball and just as he was about to shoot, Medhi Benatia scythed down the striker inside the box and earned himself a red card.

The Argentine striker picked himself up to plant the spot kick beyond the reach of Manuel Neuer and hand the Citizens the lead.

The dismissal of Benatia opened up the game and City were content to soak up pressure from the Bundesliga champions before releasing Aguero on the break.

Lampard almost fired a well-worked free kick into the top corner from 30 yards, but the midfielder's fierce shot flew narrowly wide.

However, Xabi Alonso rolled a free kick into the bottom corner of the net five minutes before the break to bring City's momentum to a halt.

Five minutes later, Robert Lewandowski netted for Bayern with a flicked header to turn the game on its head.
