Mainz take all three points against Freiburg

Mainz 05 beat Freiburg 2-1 in the Bundesliga, with all three goals coming in a seven-minute spell.

Freiburg have been beaten at home by a lively Mainz 05 side side on day two of the Bundesliga.

The first chance of the game fell to Mike Hanke, who was picked out by an Oliver Sorg cross, but the striker could not hit the target.

It was a match of few chances, but most were falling to new boy Hanke. He went for goal from outside the box but it did not have enough on it to beat Heinz Muller.

The visitors went close with 10 minutes of the first half remaining, but Niki Zimling's shot from just outside the box went narrowly wide.

The second half burst into life in a seven-minute spell in which there were three goals.

Zimling gave Mainz the lead with a powerful header from a Johannes Geis cross, before he turned provider to set up Muller for a goal from a tight angle.

Sebastian Freis scored for the hosts to set up a nervy final 20 minutes, but Mainz hung on for the three points.
