Gueida Fofana pens contract extension with Lyon

Lyon midfielder Gueida Fofana has signed a new two-and-half-year deal with the French club.

The 22-year-old had been linked with Newcastle United, but any hopes of the Magpies adding the Frenchman to their squad seem to have disappeared with the deal.

"We had started discussions and at times things went hot and cold, but it is with great satisfaction that I have now extended at a great club like Lyon," Fofana told the club's official website.

Fofana arrived at Lyon from Le Havre in 2011 and has gone on to make 34 appearances for the club.
