Sports Mole analyses Lorient's 2-0 victory over Lille at home in Ligue 1.

Lille have failed to go level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille at the top of Ligue 1, as they lost 2-0 to Lorient away from home.

Gregory Bourillon gave the hosts the lead in the 24th minute and Benjamin Corgnet ensured the points for his side by scoring the second goal on 69 minutes.

It was an exciting game of football, and here Sports Mole takes a closer look to see if the result was fair.

Match statistics:

Lille:

Possession 64%

Fouls 8

Was the result fair?

Yes. Lorient took their chances and that proved to be the difference between the two sides in the end. Lille dominated the game in periods, but the hosts always came out of those spells unscathed.

Lorient's performance

Lorient took their chances well and they should be happy to have finally returned to winning ways. Tonight they showed that they can match the best of sides in all departments, but they do need to be wary of tightening up their defence and not allowing opposition attackers to slip in behind their defenders.

Lille's performance

Coach Rudi Garcia will be disappointed with his players' energy tonight. Lille were expected to take maximum points against a side struggling in recent weeks, but their lack of imagination and failure to take their chances let them down.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Fabien Audard: In a game in which no particular individual stood out for his performance, the Lorient goalkeeper's display was the most crucial. The 34-year-old made a string of saves at the start of the second half when Lille had their best spell in the game, including two double-saves.

Referee's performance

Olivier Thual‎ was extremely professional and controlled the match well. There were no moments of controversy and the yellow cards that he dished out were for the right challenges.

What next?

Lorient: Lorient will be looking to build on tonight's win with an away victory over Bastia in Ligue 1 next weekend.

Lille: Lille are away at Marseille next weekend, but have a Champions League clash with BATE Borisov in midweek.
