Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has indicated that Alexis Sanchez opted to join Arsenal due to his wife's desire to live in London.
The Chile international was heavily linked with a move to the Reds last summer but opted to join Arsenal, and while Liverpool fans were frustrated to see their club fail to land another high-profile player, Werner suggests that it was not all down to footballing reasons.
"Every transaction is somewhat different from the next," he told the Liverpool Echo. "Without mentioning any names, we were very focused on a player last year. We felt that we had an understanding but his wife wanted to live in London. None of these transfers are simple."
Sanchez, 26, has scored 25 goals in 52 games since leaving Barcelona for London, helping Arsenal to secure a Champions League position for the 18th consecutive season.
