Germany boss Joachim Low: 'Mario Gotze could benefit from transfer'

Germany head coach Joachim Low believes that Mario Gotze would benefit from a move away from Bayern Munich.

Germany head coach Joachim Low has claimed that Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze could benefit from a move elsewhere.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave the Bundesliga giants this summer after failing to hold down a regular spot in the team under outgoing manager Pep Guardiola.

Gotze's former club Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a move for the German World Cup winner, while his former manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be keen to sign him for Liverpool.

When asked about Gotze's future during an interview with newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Low said: "Generally speaking a change - a new environment, new stimuli, new challenges - can sometimes release new powers.

"You only have to look at the development of Toni Kroos. He was great at Bayern but he went to Real Madrid and took the next step.

"What Mario needs is trust. He needs a coach who will desperately want him in the team, but that is no criticism to Bayern or Pep Guardiola of course."

Gotze, who joined Bayern from Dortmund in 2013, will miss this weekend's German Cup final due to injury, but is expected to be fit for Euro 2016.
