Liverpool yet to make move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expects Thiago Alcantara to leave Bayern Munich, but reveals that Liverpool - the rumoured frontrunners to sign him - have yet to make an offer.

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Liverpool have yet to make a formal approach for midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Reds are the rumoured frontrunners to sign the Spain international following recent confirmation that Bayern will let him leave this summer.

Thiago is believed to be available for a cut-price £27m given that he is into the last year of his contract, with Bayern not prepared to let the 29-year-old leave for free in less than a year's time.

However, while Rummenigge still expects Thiago to move on before the transfer window closes, he says that no offers have been tabled by the Premier League champions for the former Barcelona ace.

"We always read a lot about Liverpool, but they haven't contacted us yet," he told Bild.

"Yesterday we had the meeting with our employees and his whole family was there, and they wandered around the square in great nostalgia [at the Allianz Arena], I would say.

"It looked a lot like goodbye, as if he had made up his mind. I don't know and he doesn't know yet either [where his future lies], because we all focused on this Champions League final.

"I think we will have to wait what the following days will bring."

Thiago played 40 times for Bayern in their treble-winning 2019-20 campaign, which culminated in last weekend's 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
