Liverpool transfer news: Reds attacker delivers fresh update on his future

'I need to have a talk': Liverpool ace delivers fresh update on his future

Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott has reportedly revealed yet again that he would be open to leaving the club this summer.

The 22-year-old was regarded as one of the brightest young talents at the club under Jurgen Klopp, but his future remains unclear after a bittersweet 2024-25 season, where he started in only six games in all competitions.

Liverpool have spent an eye-watering £300m this summer on seven signings. This is in sharp contrast to the previous summer, when they signed only one player, Federico Chiesa, who arrived at a measly fee.

Therefore, the Reds could be looking to recoup some money through player sales, and Elliott could be sacrificed.

The left-footed winger has no shortage of admirers, with West Ham United reportedly looking to bring him to the London stadium

What Elliott has said about his Liverpool future

Elliott has travelled with the Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour of Asia. The former Fulham wonderkid said that he needs to 'have a talk' with everyone and assess his situation.

"Look, if I had it my way, I'd be here for the rest of my career, it's as simple as that, I love everything about the club," Elliott told The Anfield Wrap, via The Mirror.

"But at the same time I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what's best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. I want to keep being successful as a player.

"I think it's still something I need to review. I need to have a talk with everyone, really and review the situation because we've had many new players come in, so whether it blocks the path for me I'm not sure, it's something I need to decide and have a look at.

"My main focus is here now. At the moment I'm here for the season, as far as I'm aware, unless if anything changes, we have a busy pre-season, it's non-stop, I need to make sure I'm focussed on that and just be ready for everything."

Elliott likely to leave Liverpool this summer

The winger proved his quality during the Under-21 European Championship, where he scored five goals and was named the Player of the Tournament.

While his potential is undeniable, Liverpool have signed top-class players in his position, and it would become really difficult for him to get regular games next season.

Even if Luis Diaz, who is reportedly being targeted by Bayern Munich, were to leave the club, it would not significantly impact his situation, as the Reds are already well-stocked in their attacking areas.

Elliott needs to leave Liverpool to move somewhere where he will get regular game time, especially when he harbours the ambition of playing for England in the World Cup next year.
